Expertise
DEOSC boasts the best production of bay oil in the Caribbean, respecting the heritage, tradition, and nature of Dominica.
High Quality from the Ground up
Dominica Bay Oil and Bay Rum are made by 564 independent farmers who take pride in the quality of their products. However, our high quality standards begin long before production starts.
Right from the beginning, West Indian Bay Trees set the precedent for quality. These special trees native to Dominica are handled with the appropriate respect and high quality standards to yield their full potential of first-rate botanicals.
Our farmers manually harvest the leaves and bark of West Indian Bay Trees—a rather difficult task because of the island’s mountainous and rugged terrain. We then use a steam distillation process to extract oil from our harvest. The extraction and output of the essential oil is between 1.5 and 2.5 percent. Our oil is of peak quality, containing eugenol, chavicol, methyl eugenol, chavicol, methyleugenol, eugenol acetate and myrcene.
From Us to You
The distillation process for Dominica Bay Oil and Bay Rum takes place in home-based distilleries around the island and at the DEOSC industrial distillery in Petite Savanne, Dominica. Our capable facility is equipped with two alembics, a boiler, two condensers and two Florentine flasks to produce the finest essential oils on the market. We use two warehouses to export our botanicals, allowing us to share the bounty of our island’s nature and heritage with consumers and companies in Dominica and around the world.
Tradition with Excellence
Age-old techniques are foundational to Dominica Bay Oil and Bay Rum, but we make sure to stay updated on modern quality assurances and certifications. Our celebrated certifications include _______
Sustainable Roots
Our Dominica roots are essential to who we are and the botanicals we produce. We show our gratitude for our bountiful island through a commitment to natural preservation.
The leaves and bark harvested from our native West Indian Bay trees are processed primarily in home-based distilleries fuelled by wood fire. DEOSC takes care to replenish trees and is seeking alternative fuel methods to decrease deforestation. Additionally, we continue to consider other environmentally friendly ways of disposing of waste material generated through the distillation process.
